Abstract

Corn cobs are composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Corn cobs can be used as an alternative for making cellulose. The objective of the current research was to determine the effect of Aloe vera on the characteristics and antibacterial properties of the cellulose/gelatin film. Cellulose/gelatin/Aloe vera had been successfully produced, which was confirmed using FTIR analysis. Specifically, the presence of -OH and -CN bands at wavenumber 3287.5 and 1371 cm-1. The antibacterial test showed that the composite film inhibited the growth of S. aureus and E. coli. These results indicate the potential utilization of cellulose/gelatin as the antibacterial in the presence of Aloe vera.
